Kids will love creating pretty winter art using crayons and a variety of snowflakes made of different materials and textures.
Snowflake rubbing winter art for kids
Can you do snowflake rubbings with any materials? This is a great question to ask kids. Have them use scientific inquiry skills to experiment with different textures and materials to see what will leave an imprint and what won’t.
Supplies needed
Assorted snowflakes Paper Crayons
We used assorted snowflakes from our Christmas tree that were made from a variety of materials and textures.
Instructions
The first step is to remove the wrappers from crayons.
Place a piece of paper over each snowflake; you will want as many snowflakes made out of different materials and with different textures as possible. Holding the crayon on its side then move it back and forth over the paper with the snowflake underneath until the pattern begins to appear.
We found that some snowflakes didn’t work as well as others did. The pink glitter ornament, the large silver ornament, and the small snowflake button worked the best. The crochet ornament left an impression and the snowflake banner worked a little, but not as well as we thought it would.
We also experimented with using different colors for different parts of the largest snowflake.
