What’s more fun than playing a game? Making your own game! One of our favorite preschool games is Memory, the matching card game. My son usually plays the official version at Grandma’s house, but we don’t have that game at home. The concept is so simple that we decided to make our own with readymade stickers and cardstock. The stickers that come with many stickers to a sheet, with repeating images are ideal, like the ones sold in the education/teacher aisle at your local dollar store....

Last year, I found these fun silver tin buckets at Home Depot. I hammered holes in the bottom and they became pots. Then I found this great wood barrel bucket and I drilled holes into the bottom of that to make it a pot as well. My garden was herbs in the tins and tomatoes in the wood barrel. My barrel did not have enough room for the tomatoes. They died after giving me about 8 tomatoes because the roots had no more room to grow....

Supplies for Egg Carton Pine Cones: one dozen egg carton brown paint paint brush paint bowl paper towels or newspaper scissors (adult) 1 brown pipe cleaner per pine cone Cut apart your egg carton into single carton cups. Paint each of your single carton cups with your brown paint. We only painted the outside, but feel free to paint the inside too if you want a more “brown” all over look....

TISSUE PAPER DAISIES: MEXICAN STYLE Supplies: Tissue paper, plain or patterned Scissors 2 Pencils (ridged is best) Hot Glue Gun Green Yarn or Floral Tape Cut your tissue paper into squares, the length of your pencil. Scrunch your paper up into wads and then flatten them back out to give it a crinkly look. With a pencil at either end of your tissue square, roll the pencils around the tissue toward each other....
Supplies for Sugared Nuts: 1/2 cup chopped nuts – sliced almonds or chopped pecans are best 1/3 cup white sugar frying pan tinfoil Heat up your frying pan on medium heat. Pour in the nuts and sugar, and start to stir. You will be constantly stirring, so don’t plan to go anywhere for the next 5-7 minutes. The sugar will start to melt and bead up. Some will form clumps on the almonds, some will clump together to make tiny sugar balls....
For the cookies in the pictures, I used half whole wheat flour and omitted the raisins (didn’t have any on hand). The only problem was that the dough was so tasty that we didn’t end up baking very many cookies. (Good thing I froze half of the dough for later!) This is a nice alternative to the normal sugar-laden cookie doughs. It’s lightly sweet. If that bothers you, load up on the frosting....

I love the look of silver mirrors. With just one easy coat of silver spray paint I was able to hide the yellowing frame. Isn’t spray paint the greatest?! With this big snowflake shaped cutting die from Lifestyle Crafts, I cut out a bunch of snowflakes using different silver and glittery papers. Then with small glue dots, I adhered each snowflake on to the frame. Isn’t it fun?! Now every time I walk by it this winter, I will be reminded to enjoy this season that often times I dread....
