You will need to cut out A LOT of hearts. All colors and sizes. I did most (okay all) of the cutting, but I did try to help both my kids get used to using scissors for this project. I like to fold the paper in half first. Then cut out half of a heart on the fold. That will help the hearts be more symmetrical. I tried to cut some hearts free-hand, but I just went back to folding the paper....

Here’s the Before & After. I always love a good before and after (don’t you?!) To make the little paper birds, I used a Quickutz die cut along with American Crafts’ Blue Skies paper. The birds are stuck two together with a glue dot. The bird cage was sprayed outside (in a cardboard box) with Krylon Bahama Sea (Gloss) spray paint. Supplies for Painted Birthday Party Plate: glass or ceramic plate glass paints – we used DecoArt’s Frost Gloss Enamels paint brush or sponge brush stencils – happy birthday and a sunburst from DecoArt which are awesome and stick to the surface! Wash and dry your plate. Follow the instructions on the paint bottle for the best results. Place your Happy Birthday stencil on one end of the ceramic plate and press it down to stick....
We used the Cake Mix Cookie recipe with a yellow cake mix, and added in 1 1/2 cups of m&ms for the burst of color. You could make these with any basic chocolate chip cookie recipe, just omit the chocoalte chips and add in the m&m candies. Bake, cool, and enjoy these bright happy cookies!
