Summer Fresh Peach Ice Cream We freeze some of our peaches, make pies, cake with peach toppings, and also make jam. Our family’s favorite way to enjoy fresh peaches is in homemade ice cream. And I think after numerous attempts to get it just right, I think I finally did. Surprisingly this recipe is the simplest and easiest of all we’ve tried. No cooking involved; no eggs. Just peaches, cream, sugar, lemon juice, and a little almond extract if you have it....

Each quilt has 30 squares of fabric, 2 of each kind for matching. Each square is 4×4 inches once sewn, (I used a 1/4 inch seam allowance, so I had 4 1/2 inch squares to start.) Some of the fabric is flannel and some cotton, either is fine for me. For the back, I used a fun flannel animal pattern. It came in purple for my girl quilt and green for my boy quilt....
Most recipes from the UK use Digestive Biscuits or even better–Hobnobs, neither of which I have on hand. Instead, I opt for using a pat-in-the-pan pastry crust. For Thanksgiving one year I used a graham cracker crust. Really, it doesn’t matter. Whatever crust you use, it will be delicious. After all, it’s the filling that really counts. Rotary cutters have made cutting fabric much more accurate and efficient. I love my rotary cutter. Be careful though – those blades are sharp. Make it a habit to keep the safety cover in position and the cutter hidden away from curious small people. An important – and sometimes over-looked – aspect of cutting fabric is squaring-up the fabric edges before you start hacking-off strips or squares. Sometimes the fabric is wound funny on the bolt or the busy fabric-store worker may just randomly hack off your yardage....
Along with school shopping and choosing a new lunch box, one back-to-school tradition is covering your school books. Some schools require it, some don’t, but your kids are sure to get a kick out of customizing their books with covers made from recycled materials. You can use a variety of destined-for-the-dumpster materials to make unique book covers that, along with duct tape, will be sturdy and protect textbooks when they get shoved into a locker or a brimming backpack....
It’s about drinking – clean green drinking. I’m not going to get all tee-toteler on you, we’re all adults here (I think.) So what you chose to imbibe is up to you, but at the Mangum pad we’re going to take a week (well, we’ll start with a week and go from there) to forego processed drinks and get as close to drinking from the source as possible. After years of moderating debates between friends who like their marshmallows flaming and those who prefer a golden brown, my preferences have fallen in-between. I like toast my marshmallows to a lovely brown before plunging them into the flame to get a charred coating. The warm center and toasty outside add a unique balance between the extremes. I like to think it’s the best of both worlds. Toasted Marshmallow Rice Crispy Treats are soft and chewy....
Hey, remember when kids used to secretly leave Valentines at your door? They would ring the door bell and run away, remember?? That was awesome. What happened to that?? It was held at the lovely Trophy Cupcakes located north of Seattle. They have the perfect party room, complete with amazingly colorful tissue paper pom poms. Look at us all so busy working :) Along with a few tiers of cupcakes… vanilla, chocolate, and apple caramel! Couldn’t have been better. It was the perfect place to hold our little event. Working with my partner, Lyndsey of The Stationary Place, was perfect....
