How to make our 4th of July cake

This decorated angel food cake is perfect for the 4th of July and takes less than 30-minutes to put together. The best part is, there is absolutely no baking. This is a last-minute dessert idea though and is best if made right before your guests arrive. If you want to make some of it in advance to spend more time with your guests and less in the kitchen, try this:

Prepare the whipping cream and store it in a sealed container in the refrigerator. Slice the strawberries and store those in a sealed container in the refrigerator too.

Slice your angel food cake in half and set the top aside.

Combine the coconut extract and heavy whipping cream in a bowl and mix together at low speed until stiff peaks form. This will take a few minutes, be patient though, and don’t over-mix it because you cannot undo it.

Spread a layer of the whipped cream on top of the bottom layer of the angel food cake. Top it with fresh blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries.

Put the top layer of cake back on, and repeat the previous step by topping with whipped cream and berries. Add flaked coconut and mint, and then sift powdered sugar over the top.
